Radio News Bulletins

The image above is a compilation of radio news bulletins during an Internship at ABC News.
During my internship at ABC News, I was trained research and writing for radio, broadcasting, and digital based on editorial standards and the COPY, COPY/GRAB, and Voicer guidelines.
Under their guidance, I have learnt the difference between writing for different platforms, how to use newsroom software such as AP ENPS, GV STRATUS and NETIA, and the importance of time management and quality over quantity when reporting on breaking news for the radio bulletin.
These skills are vital for my future career as a radio journalist to become adaptable, a problem solver, and a jack-of-all-trades in a fast paced newsroom.
Here is an example of a radio news bulletin I have written:
BNE Tallebudgera Shooting COPY/GRAB
A person of interest in a shooting incident in the Gold Coast has been arrested in Victoria on unrelated charges.
A 33-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds outside her Tallebudgera home almost two weeks ago.
She is now in stable condition.
Gold Coast CIB Detective Inspector Mark Mooney says the weapon has been found and investigations are ongoing.

BNE Armed Robberies Appeal
Queensland Police are investigating multiple armed robberies throughout Brisbane and Logan since this morning.
Initial investigations indicate four male offenders stole cash and cigarettes from service stations in Cornubia and Loganholme before fleeing in a stolen Volkswagen.
Investigations are still ongoing.
MYC Two teenagers located deceased at Yandina Waterfall
A 17-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy have been found deceased at Wappa Falls earlier today.
Search and rescue have located the missing girl at 2:30 this afternoon and the missing boy who tried to help her 7:30 later that night
Police will prepare reports for the corner for both teenagers.
Wappa Falls will remain close as investigations continue.
BNE Arson charges, Aldershot
A 32-year-old man has been charged with arson following a house fire in Aldershot yesterday.
It will be alleged the man had crashed his car into a Sapphire Street and deliberately lit the property on fire.
The man has been charged with one count each of arson, dangerous operation of a vehicle with prior conviction and contravention of police protection notices.
He is expected to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today as investigations continues.
ROK Missing Man
Police are asking the public to help find a 44-year-old man missing from the Rockhampton since January 10.
He was last seen in all black shots, t-shirt, shoes, and a bucket hat along Lawrie Street at 11am on January 11.
Mark Stafford is described as Caucasian, approximately 180cm tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, and proportionately build.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
I wrote these bulletins by researching on Queensland Police Crime Alerts, social media websites, and news websites for the latest news of the hour.
The first script is an example of how I used GV STRATUS to source a press conference, create a grab, edit the grab, and place it in the script to create a COPY/GRAB bulletin. I did this because the speaker as it brings credibility and authority with a new voice.
The other bulletins are written as a COPY with less than four paragraph and 30 seconds each to ensure efficient delivery time.
